MARUCHO RYOKAN -Extra Reports (3)-

In 1989, Nagayu Onsen began foster exchanges with Bad Krozingen, a leading spa resort in Germany and now a sister city, using hot springs as a bridge, and by 2007, about 300 residents of Naoiri had visited Germany.
Owner Ito also visited the area and even had the opportunity to visit the home of the mayor of Baden-Baden, one of the most historic hot spring resorts in Europe.

A photo of “Marucho Ryokan” from 1935 is displayed in front of the private baths on the first floor. At that time, it was a rare three-story wooden building, and you can see a bridge spanning right in front of the inn. There is also a photo of the “Gani-yu”, which shows the subtle changes from the present day.
Bad Krozingen, the sister city of Naoiri, gave 15,000 hectares of its own vineyards.
Originally, Bad Krozingen's wine was produced and consumed locally “wine that never travels”. Nagayu Onsen is the only place where you can purchase this high-quality German wine.
Wine “Friendshaft” from Bad Krozingen 1 Wine that can only be drunk in Nagayu.

Another recommended drink is the original shochu of “Marucho Ryokan”, which marked its 100th anniversary in 2008. The fruity and mellow taste of 100% barley goes well with dinner at the inn.

The welcome sweet served was warabi mochi with a subtle sweetness. The bamboo dish added an elegant and visually pleasing touch. The sweets are prepared with the idea of giving tired bodies a break after a long trip and replenishing the calories consumed at the hot springs in advance.
All the sweets are handmade and change with the seasons each month.

Although Marucho Ryokan is not equipped with a souvenir shop, there are several souvenirs available at the front desk, including bath salts from Nagayu Onsen and “Yuzu senbei” (yuzu rice crackers), which are also available as teacakes.
This senbei is made by the local confectioner Mimura Kashiho and were inspired by a nearby area once called “Yukanshi”, known for producing delicious yuzu fruit.

A recommended souvenir is “Onsento” (hot spring sugar).
This specialty confection is made by the local confectioner Mimura Kashiho.
Since it's made using carbonated spring water, it melts in the mouth with a light, popping sensation.
You can put it in your coffee or tea instead of sugar, or eat it as it is, it's not overly sweet.
