| If you visit “Marucho Ryokan”, be sure to also try the local outdoor baths. There are 4 outdoor baths within walking distance, allowing you to experience subtle variations in the carbonated spring water. Guests staying in rooms facing the Serikawa River will see “Gani-Yu”, a mixed open-air bath, right in front of them. This might be the most embarrassing open-air bath in Japan. It has no changing room and is fully visible from nearby roads and inns. However, bathing suits are allowed. The spring temperature here is around 38°C, which is pleasantly lukewarm and perfect for a long, relaxing soak. At night, you can enjoy the sound of the river and a sky full of stars while you bathe, so many people come here secretly during the night. This natural hot spring is free to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, though it can become submerged in the Serikawa River during heavy rain. |

The name “Gani-Yu” is said to have originated from a rock shaped like a crab, where carbonated spring water once bubbled up, creating a foaming effect that resembled a crab's form. |

| The spring quality here is classified as a “Magnesium, Sodium, Calcium - Hydrogen carbonate spring” (old name of the spring:Bicarbonate earth spring”), which is almost the same as that of “Marucho Ryokan”. However, this wild, nature-rich hot spring offers definitely something to experience if you have the chance. Right next to “Marucho Ryokan” is “Chosei-To”, a city run day-trip hot spring facility. To enter, simply insert the 200 yen admission fee, and the automatic door will open. Be careful, the door will close quickly if you don't go in right away. Inside, you'll find separate indoor baths for men and women, with a charming, traditional hot spring atmosphere. It's open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., so visiting before breakfast could be a great way to start the day. |

| “Chosei-To” | |
| A five-minute walk from the inn will take you to the Hot spring Treatment and Culture center “Gozen-Yu”. This Western-style hot spring facility was established in 1998. “Gozen-Yu” was originally built in 1781 as a public bathhouse operated by the lord, and it is said that not only lords but also feudal warriors and farmers visited the facility, making it a busy place. The facility is well-equipped with family baths and open-air baths. Drinking hot spring water is also recommended, and you can drink hot spring water from all the outlets in the building as well as from the drinking fountain located at the entrance. |

| The day-trip hot spring facility “Tenman-Yu” is located just across the bridge over the Serikawa River, about a one-minute walk from “Marucho Ryokan”. The spring source here is slightly below 40°C, making it a comfortable temperature in summer, but in winter it may feel a little cold. However, if you take a long bath, the carbonated spring will warm your body and you will not feel cold. The exterior is old and worn, and the bath can only fit about 5 adults, but it is very popular among the locals because it is available for 100 yen per person from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. |
